This page explains, in plain English, what personal information Opa Echuca collects through this website and when you book or enquire with us, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Opa Echuca is a family-owned restaurant at 554 High Street, Echuca VIC 3564. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Opa Echuca. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
What we collect
- Bookings. When you reserve a table, the booking is made through OpenTable. OpenTable collects your name, contact details, booking details and any notes (for example dietary needs or an occasion) and shares them with us so we can look after your visit.
- Function and event enquiries. If you use the enquiry form on our functions or Christmas pages, we collect your name, phone, email, preferred date, number of guests and the occasion. The form is hosted by our website provider, Netlify. If you use the OpenTable private dining form instead, OpenTable collects the details you enter and passes them to us.
- Emails and calls. If you email or phone us, we keep what you tell us so we can reply.
- Gift cards. Gift cards are sold through Square. Square handles your payment details; we don’t see your full card number.
- Website use. We use analytics and advertising tools (below) that record how the site is used, such as the pages viewed and buttons clicked, along with technical details like your browser, device type and approximate location.
Please don’t send us sensitive information (such as health information) through the website unless it’s needed, for example an allergy we should know about for your booking. If you tell us about an allergy or dietary need, we use it only to prepare your meal safely.
Why we use it
- to manage your booking or event and contact you about it;
- to reply to your enquiry and prepare quotes and menus;
- to understand how people use our website, so we can improve it;
- to measure our advertising and show our ads to people likely to be interested (see the Meta pixel, below); and
- to meet our legal obligations.
We don’t sell your personal information.
Analytics, the Meta pixel and cookies
Plausible Analytics
We use Plausible to count visits and see which pages and buttons are popular. Plausible is designed to work without cookies and reports visits in aggregate, so it doesn’t identify you personally.
Meta pixel (Facebook and Instagram)
Our website uses the Meta pixel, a small piece of code from Meta Platforms. It tells Meta when someone views our pages or clicks things such as “Book” or a menu link. Meta may use cookies and similar technology and may link this activity to a Facebook or Instagram account. We use the results to measure our ads and to show ads to people who have visited our site. Meta handles that information under its own privacy policy.
OpenTable, Google Maps and other embedded services
Our booking and private dining forms are provided by OpenTable, and our map is provided by Google. These services may set their own cookies and collect information when you use them, under their own privacy policies: OpenTable, Google, Square and Netlify.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Our own pages don’t need cookies to work. The cookies you may see come from the services above (mainly Meta, OpenTable and Google). The site also remembers your language choice in your browser’s local storage.
How to opt out
- Cookies: you can block or delete cookies, including third-party cookies, in your browser settings. Some booking features may not work if you block them.
- Meta ads: you can change how Meta uses your activity in your Facebook or Instagram Settings › Accounts Centre › Ad preferences, including “Activity information from ad partners”. You can also use the industry opt-out at youronlinechoices.com.au.
- Analytics: browser tracking protection or a content blocker will stop Plausible and the Meta pixel loading.
- Marketing emails: if you agreed to receive news from us (for example when booking on OpenTable), every email has an unsubscribe link, or just ask us to stop.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers that help us run the restaurant and this website (OpenTable, Netlify, Square, Meta, Plausible and Google, as described above), and where the law requires it. Some of these providers store information outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union.
Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold and to keep only what we need. We delete or de-identify information we no longer need.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask a question or make a complaint about how we’ve handled it. Contact us using the details below and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
